Hammer It Home: Top Bin Tips from Our Coaches

September 25, 2025

At Hammer Academy FC, excellence is the standard. Our coaches push players to grow with the same intensity they bring to competition, building skills, discipline, and resilience for long-term success. This month, our staff shared key advice on what it takes to thrive at the highest level of youth soccer.

Coach Tom Holmes – Club Director & Head Coach

Tip: “You can’t chase success and make excuses at the same time. Your journey is yours — own it. It all starts with your mindset. Discipline. Commitment. That’s what builds champions. Be coachable. Stay hungry. Soak up every lesson your coaches give you and turn it into fuel for your game. Success isn’t given — it’s earned.”

Excuses don’t score goals. Excuses don’t win games. Your journey is yours, and it begins with your mindset. Champions aren’t built on talent alone but on discipline, hunger, and the willingness to learn. Take every word your coaches give you, turn it into fuel, and let it push you past your limits.

Coach Jason Bessey – Head Coach

Tip: “Improvement is like climbing a mountain. You take one step every day, even when it’s hard. Every practice, every extra effort outside of training, brings you closer to the top. There is no replacement for consistent, hard work.”

Champions aren’t made overnight! They’re built through discipline, persistence, and the daily decision to keep climbing, no matter how steep the path.

Coach Melissa Mereghetti – Assistant Coach

Tip: “Never give up! Even if you don’t make the team you want, start every game, or get as much playing time as you’d like, you can always keep working hard to earn those opportunities.”

Resilience is essential. Obstacles are temporary when players commit to consistent effort and a never-quit mindset.

Coach TJ Lipari – Assistant Coach

Tip: “Practice like you want to perform in a match. You can’t expect to perform with pace and speed if you don’t practice with pace and speed.”

Training sets the standard. The habits and intensity built at practice directly carry over to game-day performance.

Coach Julie McInerney – Assistant Coach

Tip: “It is so much more than wins and losses…soccer is the ultimate journey and development of each player and the team collectively! We learn together, we battle together, we grow together!”

Success isn’t defined by the scoreboard alone. True progress is measured in growth, unity, and the commitment shared across the team.

Coach Alli Chonko – Assistant Coach

Tip: “Energy is contagious—bring the kind you want more of.”

Attitude drives performance. Positive energy and focus spread quickly across the team, lifting everyone to a higher level.

At Hammers, development is more than talent. It’s consistency, resilience, focus, and teamwork. Players are expected to train with purpose, embrace challenges, and bring the right energy. Success isn’t luck, it’s built daily through discipline and mindset.
